Employees in hazardous occupations such as structural and wildland firefighters, emergency responders, military personnel, welders, workers from oil and gas industries, and those who work in an environment with potential flame and/or other heat sources, may be required to wear clothing constructed from protective materials. The garments worn should provide adequate protection to reduce the burn injury resulting from flame and intense heat. The level of protection provided can be evaluated through laboratory testing.
PCERF is equipped to evaluate textiles, clothing components and clothing systems for their thermal protection properties when exposed to convective, conductive, radiant, the combination of these thermal hazards and full scale fire exposures.
Fabric level analysis includes the Thermal Protective Performance (TPP), Heat Transfer Performance (HTP), Radiant Protective Performance (RPP), hot surface contact, Flame Resistance (FR), and Limited Oxygen Index (LOI) tests.
Our enhanced flash fire/instrumented mannequin facility provides testing services to clients for the performance evaluation of thermally protective clothing, items, equipment and ensembles under standard and non-standard conditions.
