About Us

The Protective Clothing and Equipment Research Facility (PCERF) at the University of Alberta has laboratories and equipment for a broad range of testing and research. Staff and students at PCERF have focused on both the development of dynamic models of heat and moisture transfer through textiles in high heat flux environments, and on finding ways of addressing the conflicting phenomena of protection and comfort for wearers of protective clothing. Collaborations with industry and government have led to the development of innovative protective materials and garment designs, as well as new testing protocols and specialized test equipment.
